“WHAT IS THAT ?”, SAYS MISSY THE CAT. 20 YEAR SEARCH FOR THE SMALL NEY ROUND BARN TROLLEY FINALLY ENDS.
THE SMALL NEY TROLLEY IN THE THEIR CATALOG DOES NOT LOOK MUCH LIKE THIS, BUT HAS THE SAME WHEEL TRUCKS, AND THERE IN IS THE REASON FOR THE RARITY. FLAT POOR DESIGN. I’M GUESSING IT WAS A COMMERTIAL TRAIN WRECK.
THIS TROLLEY IS PROBABLY SECOND ATTEMPT BY NEY TO SOLVE THE WHEEL TRUCK PROBLEM.
ROUND BARN TROLLEYS MANUFACTURED BY LOUDEN, PORTER, AND THE OTHER NEY LARGE SLING CARRIER (FABRICATED FROM TWO NEY MERCHANDISE CARRIERS), ALL HAD 2 TO 3 INCH SWIVEL SOCKETS. THIS TROLLEY HAS A VERY SMALL SWIVEL SOCKET, JUST OVER AN INCH. BAD IDEA. LOL.
WE MAY SEE MORE OF THESE, BUT JIM GRAY “DOUBTS IT”, HE HAS ONLY SEEN NEY TRACK IN TWO MINNESOTA BARNS, BOTH MISSING THEIR NEY ROUND BARN TROLLEY. THIS WAS LIKLEY FROM ONE OF THOSE TWO BARNS.
AT LEAST WE NOW KNOW WHY THEY ARE RARE. LOL.

Four early HHF center drop pulleys. All slightly different. From left to right…..
1 – 7/16″ wide sheave with 5/8″ holes.
1 – 7/16″ wide sheave with 7/8″ holes
1 – 3/16″ wide sheave with rare 1″ holes
1 – 3/16″ wide sheave with 7/8″ holes.
The 1 -3/16 wide units appear to go with the narrow sheave chassis… 1st gen Reversible, 1st gen side pulley, 1st gen One Way, 1st gen New Star and 2nd gen Illinois Carrier, 2nd gen side pulley “unmarked” Illinois Carrier.
The wider units have the same sheave width as the rest… 1st gen Swivel, 2nd gen static Tiger, 2nd gen swivel single and double sheave. Since there is advertising on the 2nd gen chassis showing the early and ornate cdp style both I assume that this is when the switch was being made as all the ornate HHF drops are wide.

Can anyone tell me how to find the correct original colors for FE Meyers MY07 1886 era trolleys i see muliple colors of resoration projects on line???

I HAVE SEEN DARK HUNTER GREEN AS THE STANDARD FOR EARLY MODELS, THEN A BREIF BLACK PERIOD IN THE MIDDLE, FOLLOWED BY SILVER AFTER 1900. CHECK FOR COLOR UNDER THE BOLTS, THERE ARE USUALLY TRACES OF COLOR AS YOU DISASSEMBLE THE UNIT. WILL LOOK GOOD IN EITHER COLOR. IF YOU GO HUNTER GREEN BE SURE TO LOOK FOR RUSTOLUM DARK HUNTER GREEN, ITS VERY CLOSE TO EARLY MYERS GREEN.

We are looking for a Myers trolley that can be used for both hay bales and loose hay. Any suggestions? We found two possibilities, but fear they are both just for slings. They are the 8-wheel Cannon Cross-Draft trolley (MY62) and the Sure-Lock Right Angle Cross-Draft trolley (MY56). Will either of these work with forks, and what equipment would we need to install forks? Any rigging hints? What style pulleys would we need for each set up? Thank you.

THEY CAN BE USED WITH A FORK, BUT YOU NEED A BRIDGE BETWEEN THE MATCHING SLING PULLEYS. THIS BRIDGE HAS A SINGLE HOOK OR CLEVIS TO HANG A HAY FORK ON, BUT THIS IS A VERY COMPLICATED APROCH. WOULD SUGEST A MY29, 32, OR 35 WITH A SIMPLE CENTER DROP PULLEY EASIER TO WORK WITH. THE FORK IS SIMPLY HOCKED TO THE CLEVIS IN THE CENTER DROP PULLEY AND YOU ARE READY TO GO. YOU NEED MYERS TRACK AND THE APPROPRIATE TRACK STOP (KNOCKER) TO STOP THE TROLLEY, HOLD IT ON THE END OF THE TRACK, AND RELEASE THE CENTER DROP PULLEY.

Posted on January 27, 2018 Stuck vs unstuck wheels. Here’s how I do it. Works 99 percent of the time. Last 1 percent, torch or 2 weeks in dilute caustic solution. Was taught this method by the late George Fogle.

I’ll have to give this a try , Would it be better to have support on the underside or not necessarily?

Yes, I use wood on underside of the wheel if it is really stuck hard. In the thousands of wheels I’ve unstuck I only busted two. Myers o k loader spoked wheel are fragile if you stay on them to long and to hard. If you can’t get them loose in 3 to 4 minutes get the torch.

Steve, does that tool have a solid head, or is a whole lot of needles? What is it called, please?

It’s an air hammer. It’s an attachment that fits into an air chisel. Napa or similar stores have it

Yes, solid head.
Not sure what it’s called. I call it button head tool. Looks a lot like an engine valve with a fat head.

Just purchased this guy. Got it all figured out BUT …… how did the dudes move the swing lock on the top to lock & release the drop pulley? Did they tie something to it? There’s not a lotta room in there with the track. I think i’s C wear marks if something was tied 2 the lock. did something hit the up going spikes? Help please.
