Posted on February 22, 2016 At the first hay trolley meet ten years ago, Terry Wilson (Tom’s dad) shows up with a Louden Sr cable and asked “ever see one of these?” the answer from the group was “no”. Someone had taken it apart and put it back wrong so that the pulley would not go in the trolley. I told Terry “ lets go in my shop and I’ll get it straighten it all out.” So the hunt began. Only one in ten years came on e-bay. Jim Gray beat me to it, so as was the custom in those days, I did not bid. I restored it for Jim hoping he would forget I had it, but believe me he has a very good memory….well at least i got to touch one.
At our ten year show my friend Ed Wilford showed up with… guess what, yes, a Louden Sr cable car he picked up at an antique store for $65. i told Ed i have been looking for one for ten years and if he would come up to my garage at the house I would make him forget about that trolley fast. It worked and Ed became the new owner of a Fowler value $750 plus a Gardner rod car value $250. Fortunately for me, Those chassis had cost me quite a bit less all those years back when I found them. Seemed fair, since Ed had paid only $65! We were both happy, happy, happy.
You have to see Jr. and a Sr. cable side by side. The jr is common….. the Sr? Impossible!
