Got this Barnes at an auction about 3 years ago, actually same auction I got my Louden wood slider (it was a good day!). It was a good buy and near the top of my wish list, it has been broken and repaired at some point in it’s life, actually did,’t even realize it had been broken till a month or 2 after I bought it, haha. Need the drop for it, but I have a lead on one, just have to get back and try and talk the current owner out of it (noticed it was being used as a regular barn pulley while getting a different trolley out of a barn). Again just need to get it spruced up!

Nate, that is one of those great finds that should last for a long while! These are very hard to find and fewer still have not had a rough go of it. There is a structural deficiency right at the lowest edge of the large name plate that broke with regularity. I have seen many of these that welded up just exactly like that, makes me think that in the area that they were working there must have been a go to person that put these back together. Sometimes you see the remnants of the text below BARNES, other time none at all. In any event, every one of these is remarkable and this one is no exception. Well, Nate, looks like you have a project ahead of you! Been there and its worth the effort! Was this DW’s piece? Looks like it.

This and the slider came from Milton IL Prairie Museum that was owned and ran by the late Jim Sanderson. One of the best auctions I’ve ever been to, the amount and quality of rare, unique, and early pieces was outstanding! The repair job will either take a professional or a lot more practice by myself before I am brave enough to try it!
